 Bogudonia is a fishing neighbourhood in my hometown. For years I came there and sat alone, meeting all kinds of people — artists, fishermen, altruists, just funny people. I came in sunny days and in storms, when the sea flooded the entire shore. I loved this place. It was my consolation. I have been living in another country for a long time now. And my favourite place has stopped being different. Everything changed there and access to the sea is blocked by a fence. But I don’t see it. It turns out that I will always remember what no longer exists.

 The work was made for Hidden in Front of Your Eyes — a collaborative street exhibition unfolding across three neighbourhoods of the city. In an abandoned passage along the route, I hung a photograph of the sea from Bogudonia and covered it with a curtain. The viewer could draw it back — or leave it closed, and keep what they remember.
